Motivation

Motivating staff is a difficult task. Without the support of your colleague and staff, you can not get success in the business. If you can not motivate your staffs then you will be in trouble. Yes, if your staffs are supportive and they do their job themselves then you are lucky owner that you will get free time for planning, creativity and you can implement innovative ideas. But it is very difficult to have such scenario in case of Nepal. Most of the staff are not self motivated except very few that we can count in finger tips.

As almost all staff come from different cultural, social and educational background, they may or may not cope up with the office environment. Therefore, we need to develop corporate culture in the company. Own rules and regulation, staff appraisal, appreciation, reward and punishment, hire and fire will help to motivate the staff.

I found some bosses wait the staff doing something wrong and scold in the mass which I believe is opposite of the ethic of management. They underestimate the value of staff, this is not a way to get the job done from staff. You should not under-estimate your staff, instead, catch them when they do something right.

Appreciate the staff in the mass. Encourage them to do more right things done. Reward them when they crossed the target. It is not necessary all the time money, it may be emotional value, attachment, good word of mouth in the mass.

If you cannot control your fire against the staff, take a long breath, do not discuss till you are cool and take your staff to the corner and make them realized the mistake they have done. Things will take positive pace. Convince the value of the job, educate them how to do and achieve the result. Guide them and get things done.
