Office Bullying Case 2

Cyber harassment: Virtual Molestation
(An excerpt from a female receptionist)

I am working in a hotel reception, it is my first week of my new job. I am still in teen age and I have just completed my 12th standard. I need this job to support my family and raise my siblings. I am the first child of family. My parents have raised me to this level even in hard time of their life. We are well to do family but not have sophisticated life.

First few days of my work went smoothly. I was guided by my boss, regarding my duties and discipline. I was learning the information that I need to communicate to my clients and travel agents. My work does not limit to my office premises, I need to visit different offices, travel agents, trekking agents, rafting agents for marketing.

During visit I need to pass on my mobile numbers and my social network identity to communicate the information in good faith. After few days, I started getting messages from one of my clients. I took it as my normal business and replied without delay. But it was not. I got non business related post in my wall, notification even in late night, mid night and early in the morning as if he is my boyfriend. Disgusting. Totally Cyber harassment.

I stopped replying. But he started calling in messengers during my office hour, off hour without any relation to hotel reservation and business. And offered me to have a date and a luncheon.

Confusion:
I don’t know what to do next. Shall I report to my parents or my boss or my colleague? What will they think? They might see my mistake of providing my contact mobile numbers or social network identity without knowing their intention. I might be in wrong position. I might get scolded if I show these chats to my family. I might be treated as character less girl.

Conclusion:
I shared this case to my teacher, who used to teach us regarding such harassment. He said it is virtual molestation.

Precaution:
  1. Report to your parents, co-worker or boss.
  2. Discourage such communication.
  3. Lodge complaint to police in case of extreme.

Office Bullying Case 1

Office bullying is a physical or mental harassment in the office. I am presenting a series of office harassments in blog. These articles are based on harassment experienced and shared by my friends, families, co-workers, seniors and juniors in different organizations.

All are requested to be alert from such bullying in office premises.
Please take care. (Names are not disclosed for security reason)

Mental harassment:

I did not feel that I was bullied by my boss, when I was working in one of Airline Company as a senior manager, long back. My so called General Manager, who was younger than me in age and in academic degree got inferiority complex, which I could not notice till I realize, that became late.

Being a senior manager, I used to work on my own decision for the best of the company profit. I introduced competitive airfare to fill the aircraft, which had no passenger two way for long period. I had tried my best to use media marketing and advertisement in sustainable way.

He used to call me at his office with or without reason and gives me lot of work load so that I could fail in the performing all his dead lines. He tried to find out number of mistakes and kept doing as if I was a victim in that office. He thought that I could not survive once I get rid of this job. He literally thought that I need that job in any way and I will not quit because I had no alternatives. He shouts like anything that I had made a great loss to the company, though I did not. He never gave me a credit to my successful performance that I had taken decision for the best of my company. He forgot that he was also an employee of the same company and treated like the owner of the company.

I cared the damn, that I was employed by the company and I needed to work hard for the company. After some time he started yelling at me in front of my colleagues too. This happened to my immediate bosses and others co-workers. He used to pass critical comments on my work during meeting and public places, which I could not tolerate. This created mental stress and I got symptoms of depression, which I could not notice.

First I tried to ignore such activities thinking that he might be right and I might be wrong. It got worse when I was reprimanded without any reason. Doing right became wrong in all my decision. When I said right, he was against me. When I said wrong and that will hamper the company, he took opposite decision and made me feel bad in front of my staffs. I could not tolerate the limit. Total Mental harassment.

One day, I challenged my so called boss (Still I never thought him as my boss: Stupid Boss), that if he could kick me out from the job, try it. I warned him that I could leave at any time as per my wish and he could not penalize me. After few months I quit the job and got international job, where I found freedom to decide on my own. There was no environment to continue my job. Full of office bullying.
